CONVICTED bank robber William Nanua Kapris and fellow prison escapee Raphael Walimini are still on the run, NCD metropolitan commander Supt Andy Bawa said last night.

Bawa was responding to claims posted on social network Facebook and Sharp Talk yesterday evening that police had captured Kapris.

“Who are you going to believe, me or Facebook?” he asked.

He said the postings were lies and the hunt for the escapees was still on within Central and NCD.

Meanwhile, the female warder accused of aiding the escape of Kapris, Walimini and Michael Warangu last Tuesday, appeared before the Waigani Committal Court for mention yesterday.

Hilda Gazawe, 44, of Kiono village in Chuave, Chimbu, has been remanded in custody at the Boroko police station until June 21 when the case will be next heard.

NCD-Central police commander Jim Andrews said on Monday night that police were concentrating their search around the Laloki area in Central and Gerehu.

“We have received some intelligence report on the whereabouts of Kapris and Walimini and we are investigating,” Andrews said.

He also appealed to the public to be patient with police who had been instructed to search all suspiciouslooking vehicles.

Police also renewed their appeal to the public to come forward with any information on Kapris and Walimini.

Warangu died of gunshot wounds following a confrontation with security forces at Laloki hours after the escape from nearby Bomana jail. Police claimed that Kapris may be nursing a gunshot wound from that confrontation.
