KAPUA were crowned champions of the inaugural DataCo Cup after they beat Gereka GIG 3-2 in the men’s premier division of the Manubada Volleyball Association on Saturday.
After reaching the grand final with a win over Vabukori village’s Bros, the Kirakira side managed to set the tempo with Rabura Noga, Jason Nigani and Ali Bala helping them grab the first two sets.
Gereka responded in the third and fourth sets with skipper Jeffery Charles taking charge in the front court alongside Raymond Ovenom and Roger Kinawa for them to bring the match on level terms.
The rally set seesawed with Kapua edging closer to the set point after errors in Gereka’s serves.
Kapua held their composure for 15-12 scoreline in the final set.
“Gereka have been a strong side this season and we were truly in for a challenge but my boys dug deep and earned the win,” Kapua head coach Sebea Sogo.
“I’m proud because the majority of our men are unknown players and we had to dig deep to get from Kirakira to Gereka for games this season but it’s a blessing when everything works out in the end.”
