Karawa beat city side to claim soccer title

Karawa celebrated in style after defeating Port Moresby Soccer Association (PMSA) team two 2-0 in the Southern region Under-17 Youth Football Festival grand final at the Bisini Soccer Grounds yesterday.
The Central side dominated the tournament, remaining undefeated since they started last Tuesday.
The villagers from the Hood Lagoon area attacked with a lot of speed and defended well to deny their opponents any opportunities.
Karawa’s Kei Vali Iga displayed outstanding skills and speed which saw him dribble past Port Moresby’s defence to find the net.
Karawa played an attacking style of football which saw them dominate possession and field position in the first half as Port Moresby scrambled to hang on and trail 1-0 at halftime.
The second stanza saw the Port Moresby players do a lot of defending.
Karawa’s attack was so immense it forced Port Moresby’s goalkeeper Joshua Mathew into a lot of saves.
Coach Kalo Amona said his boys had prepared for three weeks prior to the tournament.
PNG Football Association president John Wesley Gonjuan said scouts had identified promising talent to undergo development programmes.
Meanwhile, in the women’s grand final, Port Moresby Orange defeated Port Moresby Green 2-0.
