ANOTHER K10 million has been allocated in the 2012 national budget to progress work on the Karimui-Gumine road in Chimbu.
Senior public servant Mathew Apa said the allocation, in addition to K20 million allocated in 2009, had been well received by the people in the remote Karimui district.
He said road construction company Oasis Enterprise and Sky Development Corporation had done an excellent job on the road network.
Apa, who has been working in Karimui for 28 years as a community health worker, said the local people needed the road to take their coffee and agricultural produce to markets.
He said many people trekked the jungles to get to Nomane or Gumine due to the high airfares.
Transportation difficulties had also forced some public servants to leave the district.
Apa claimed basic health, education and other government services had deteriorated.
