Kaumu steers Gunners to 14-0 victory

GUNNERS shot down the DWU Ezi Cruzers 14-0 on Saturday on the back of a scintillating performance by young back, Henry Kaumu, in Madang rugby union competition.
Kaumu kicked the day off with a spectacular first half try to post the first points on the board before winger Masella Zale added his own a touch later, outpacing a depleted Cruzers’ line under the posts.
With the extras added, and nothing going right for the students all day, scores remained 14-0 at fulltime.
In what was to have been the main game for the round, 6B Pirates did not  even have to touch the ball for their competition points, forfeiting Barbarians, who failed to show up.
The Yakson Yakumani-led side did not have the numbers at the oval on the day, and have been summoned by MARFU president Matagal Tamilong to explain their no-show.
MARFU, meanwhile, announced a 26 strong train-on squad for the upcoming Star Shipping NGI 7s circuit in Rabaul and Kimbe.
The squad will start training and preparation this week for eight weeks with a trial match planned for the end of next month to finalise the travelling 12.
The squad: Tui Fitiao, Albert Kaupa, Henry Levi, Joe Manalau, Jimmy Mai, Warkia Polong, Paul Joseph, Matagal Tamilong, Victor Manab, Joseph Kalip, Wala Kolant, Lloyd Laurie, Donald Kais, Veva Hoki, Anderson Yama, Edwin Benjamin, Peter Harricknen, Eddie Sibolo, Danny Polong, Daryll Nogi, Willie Lakman, Forster Laurie, Oswald, Toby Toally, Ferdinan Ban, and Masella Zale.
A little twist of faith has also seen MARFU give the nod for the U20 and women’s competition, both set to kick off their 10s competitions on Saturday.
