MORESBY North-East MP John Kaupa’s initiative of using sport in his electorate as a tool for development has got the backing of local construction firm Northbuild.
General manager Graham Boddington, said his company was pleased to support a worthwhile cause in their local community.
“Small things that we do as scompany can impact the lives of young men and women who live in our community,” Boddington said while giving a cheque for K20,000 to support the John Kaupa Foundation.
“We want to align ourselves and support MP Kaupa’s sports initiative.
“He does a lot in his electorate and we want to support him to improve sporting codes that includes rugby league for both men and women, soccer and volleyball to benefit the youth,” Boddington added.
Boddington said while it was the first time his company had helped a competition, and a foundation, they had also helped youth from the North East electorate in other sporting endeavours.
The company sponsors the Brothers club in the Port Moresby Rugby League.
“We sponsor the Brothers in PRL and we also back Lae’s Magani rugby league team.
“We’ve also sponsored a team called the Hammers in the Ipatas Cup challenge in Port Moresby and they have progressed to the quarterfinals which take place on Saturday,” he said.
“The players of the club we sponsor are young men from all over the Moresby North East electorate and we are now proud to support MP Kaupa’s sport initiative.
Northbuild’s support for the foundation includes giving uniforms for referees and officials who run the John Kaupa Cup and the other sports. Boddington appealed to other businesses houses to look at supporting youth initiatives in their communities. Kaupa, who was present at the Unagi Oval to receive the cheque, commended Northbuild for supporting his sport initiative.
“The Government and private sector working together like this can make Moresby North East, which has a population of around 400,000 a better place to leave,” Kaupa said.
Kaupa called on companies in his electorate to support his initiative and give something back to the community.
