RESIDENTS of Manuti and Japanese Block at 6-Mile in Port Moresby will have access to water after two months, says Minister for Housing and Moresby North-East MP John Kaupa.
He made this assurance when officiating at the start of the water project at Manuti yesterday.
\He said K1 million had been made available to Eda Ranu to roll out the project.
“This is one of the pilot project in my electorate’s five-year development plan which I launched three months after the national election in 2017,” Kaupa said.
“I am looking at joining water and electricity to areas in my electorate where such services have not reached through.
“There are several projects captured in my five-year development plan, one of which is water connection, electricity, improving feeder roads and offcourse working with NCD Governor Powes Parkop and Moresby-South MP Justin Tkatchenko for settlements-to-suburbs upgrading.”
Kaupa said K4 million from district discretionary funds of Moresby North-East electorate had been put aside for Eda Ranu to connect water to all settlements in the electorate.
He said this was the first phase of the pilot project.
The second phase of the project will be rehabilitation, where they would fix any water connection issues to each house.
According to Eda Ranu technical division manager for engineering and works, Paul Ambane, the project would start today.
He said the 80mm pipe would run 1km from the entrance of National Airport Corporation to Manuti and down to Japanese Block.
Ambane said connections to Manuti will take two months to complete.
Work will continue to Japanese Block depending on availability of funds.
