Kavieng facing regular blackouts due to load shedding

THE PNG Power Limited (PPL) in Kavieng, New Ireland, says residents with embedded sets should maintain their own electricity as the province has been experiencing power outages recently.
The PPL Kavieng Powerhouse stated that the power usually goes off after 6am, and is restored between 8pm and 9pm.
They explained that the powerhouse is under critical generation deficiency, because they have been carrying out load shedding to maintain electricity for essential services since June 1.
“The current situation is tense with only one generator (unit) online and is overriding all manual control,” it said.
“As such, reliability is subjected to the generation capacity.
“We have since then procured all required parts for the other units and are adamant about getting one unit back online.
“Eighty per cent of the required parts are at hand.”
