LUFA MP Moriape Kavori is investing in a rural transport network to reach the isolated population of the three local level government areas in the district.
Kavori, who is also the Vice Minister for Fisheries and Marine Resources, announced his plan at Yagusa village on Tuesday when he launched a 34-kilometers rural road upgrade between Yagusa and Ukunumpi villages.
He said roads will be built, bridges and rural airstrips in Unavi LLG like Megino, Herowana, Kora and Mt Crater Gold areas fixed.
He said from the District Services Improvement Programme (DSIP), the money has enabled him to prioritise rural transport infrastructure improvements.
He said K1 million is now going to be used for Yagusa to Ukunumpi road and would spread to other priority areas.
“I am building and upgrading roads to empower you (people) to become industrious and make money from your land,” he said.
“I work hard on my land even before I become MP.
“I don’t go to town to get money, I am always in the village as you always see me.”
Kavori urged the people to grow more garden crops because with good roads, they will easily bring them to the markets on good road networks.
He said the district is one of the biggest in Eastern Highlands that needs more roads and bridges and he needs more money from the Government.
