KUMUL Consolidated Holdings (KCH) Limited have pledged to fund a training facility for professional boxers who are fighting under Oceania Fight Promotions (OFP).
Managing director Prof David Kavanamur assured OFP and its boxers during the fight night event in Port Moresby last weekend that the state-owned trustee was committed to setting up a gym and other facilities in Port Moresby in honor of former professional boxers late Johnny Aba and Martin Beni.
“I’d like to honour and say thank you to the PNG boxing legends who have gone before us, guys like late Martin Beni, Johnny Aba and not forgetting one of the strong supporter of boxing, the late Ben Micah,” Kavanamur said.
“Thank you to Oceania Fight Promotions for always supporting professional boxing. Boxing is all about the boxers, they put their body on the line to entertain us.
“Not only that but the boxers also night for their self-worth, it’s also a family oriented sport. To the youths who train hard and compete in pro-boxing, you are part of us.
“KCH has agreed to support pro-boxing and OFP; we are looking at building a boxing ring as well as a gym so that the boxers can train and prepare better.
“Thank you to the KCH board and the Government for supporting this.”
OFP managing director Maryanne Millie thanked KCH for supporting pro-boxing.
She said the facilities would benefit the boxers and they deserved it.
“It’s about time we have our own training facilities and we are happy that KCH have recognised us and have responded.
“This would make pro-boxing bigger and better going forward. We look forward to more developments and support in this sport.”
