PARENTS and guardians have been urged to keep a close eye on their children in Port Moresby as the city has seen an increase in sexual offences against children.
National Capital District Metropolitan Superintendent Perou N’dranou was concerned with the number of cases involving minors in Moresby South over the last couple of weeks.
N’dranou said last week that there were reports of four cases of sexual violence and two rape cases.
“Reports of major crime had been steady last week but for sexual crimes, there were too many,” he said.
“I urge all parents and guardians to be mindful of where their children go to ensure that they do not become victims of sexual crimes.”
Among reports made last week, N’dranou said there were eight armed robbery cases with eight vehicles stolen. Police retrieved seven of the eight vehicles.
N’dranou said he was impressed with the National Capital District police effort to retrieve the vehicles despite the lack of manpower.
Other reports of crime:

  •  Four cases of fraud;
  •  five cases of armed robbery; and,
  •  Four break and entry
    National Capital District police were also working on three cases of homicide, two cases of suspicious deaths and one wilful murder over the past months in Port Moresby.
