MORE than K26 million is needed to complete the Koroba-Kopiago road, which is part of the Highlands Highway, local MP John Kekeno said.
Kekeno said the K25 million allocated for the Koroba-Kopiago road had been exhausted on the first 45km and it needed an additional K26 million to reach Kopiago.
He said the road was important as it was part of the Highlands Highway, which started from Lae and ended in Kopiago.
During Question Time on Tuesday, Kekeno asked if the Works Department could allocate funds from the K150 million budget allocation for the rehabilitation of the Highlands Highway.
Minister for Works Francis Awesa admitted the road was part of
the national highway and he would make funds available from
the K150 million allocation.
He said K8 million was from the national government, while the other K7 million was from major developers, Oil Search, ExxonMobil and Porgera Joint Venture, allocated for the maintenance of the highway.
