KEROWAGI Coffee Cup Rugby League presented its player registration details and competition summary to the Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League (PNGRFL) last week.
PNGRFL game development manager Toksy Nema said it was important that affiliated leagues supplied their lists of registered players for insurance cover.
“The Coronavirus (Covid-19) continues to affect us, but we have to adjust to live with it,” he said.
“As a sport, we have Covid-19 protocols for all leagues to follow.
“We had instances where players had suffered serious injuries, but were unable to look into them because proof of their registration did not reach our office.
“Injuries that happen in that situation often come from offseason competitions and we can’t assist.
“Rugby league is a physical sport and injuries are bound to happen.
“We encourage players to get registered so they are covered when they suffer an injury.”
Meanwhile, the competition’s administration — under Kerowagi Development Holdings (KDH) —has completed registration for its three divisions with a final payment of K82,100 made to PNGRFL.
KDH managing director John Bal said the completion of registration showed the competition’s goal to help develop rugby league in Kerowagi.
“Being a business arm of the district authority, we are happy to see all our divisions covered and following the guidelines set by PNGRFL,” he said.
