MORE than 13,000 people living in Kerowagi and Kundiawa-Gembogl districts in Chimbu have benefited from the 15km road maintenance programme funded by Kerowagi MP Guma Wau.
Wau has allocated K100,000 from his district services improvement programme (DSIP) this year to have the
Dan Nigle-Koglai road fixed which now benefits his Gena people and the Kamaneku and Sambuga people living at the border in the Kundiawa-Gembogl district.
Gena-Waugla local level government council deputy president Paul Gende, who organised the five council wards to maintain the road, said the road maintenance, which started early last month, was completed recently.
Gende said the people were now seeing vehicles travelling into their area bringing vital goods and services unlike in the past.
He said farmers and people no longer walked long distance to catch PMV to town and back and that schools and health centres were more accessible.
Gende said he organised people to maintain the road using gardening tools and, so far, he was satisfied with the work carried out so far.
He said as soon as the money was released, he would pay the people who worked on the road.
Last year, Wau also funded a bridge across Sigadan River in his area at the cost of K200,000 which now allowed motorist to cross the river transporting passengers and goods.
