IT may be one of the best performances for captain Elvah Kialo after leading Kavieng One to the women’s grand final with her superb corner kick.
With 10 minutes remaining, Kialo’s shot went past Kavieng Greens goalkeeper Taiya Ulun to seal the match at 3-0 and win a spot in the final against Port Moresby in the 2011 National Murat championships on Sunday.
Kavieng One proved the better side but have a tough task against a more fancied Port Moresby side.
After the elimination round, Port Moresby, Kavieng One, Kavieng Two and Kavieng Green finished in the top four spots and advanced to the semi-finals yesterday.
In the first semi-final, Port Moresby defeated Kavieng Two 3-1 to book the first grand final spot.
In the other semi-final, Kavieng One belted Kavieng Green 3-0.
Kavieng One strikers Mary Kutan and Josephine Messe combined well to slip one past Greens’ goalkeeper in the 15th minute to lead 1-0.
Kavieng One continued to dominate play and pinned them in their own territory for the first 20 minutes.
Kavieng Green’s Nialen Moen tried desperately to find the equaliser but lacked support from her teammates.
However, it was Kavieng One who struck again through Messe who converted from a free kick to extend their lead to 2-0.
And with time running out, Kialo’s superb kick from the corner found the target to seal the match.
In the men’s quarter-finals, Kavieng One defeated South Mussau 2-1, Port Moresby defeated Western Mussau 2-1 in extra-time.
Both winners will advance to the semi-finals.
They will meet the winners of the match between Kavieng 2 and Kimbe and Kokopo and Yamaros One.
