Kick-off deferred to next Sunday

THE Digicel Cup kick-off has been deferred to next Sunday due to limited seats on domestic flights, according to Papua New Guinea National Rugby League Competition manager Ora Gairo.
He said the high number people travelling during the Easter weekend had made it tough for teams that will be travelling to other centres for their matches.
“The delay is due to a number of factors,” Gairo said.
“But the major one is that we can’t book flights for travelling teams because of the high number of people travelling during this period. There are other challenges too, but we are managing them well.
“We’ll definitely be ready for kick-off on April 24.”
Gairo said there had been a few changes to the venues with Goroka to host its home games at the Sir Danny Leahy Oval. “The Lahanis played their home games at the Jonah Ambane Oval last year,” he said.
“But for this season, they will be playing at home.
“Wabag’s Aipus Oval, Kimbe’s Humphreys Oval and Kokopo’s Kalabond Oval will continue to host matches. Last year, most of the games were played in Port Moresby and Lae.
“But this year, we will be spreading the games across the country.”
Gairo said the competition would monitor the matches in Highlands with the general election nearing.
He said the venues would be changed if player safety was compromised.
Gairo said capacity crowds would be allowed at all venues in the upcoming season.
