THE two police officers from Tari, in Hela, who were taken against their will in Southern Highlands have been released.
Hela police commander chief Supt Martin Lakari confirmed with The National yesterday that the two officers were released the same day and are safe.
The two Tari-based officers were part of a convoy travelling back to Hela from Mt Hagen, Western Highlands, when they were intercepted and robbed at Tindom Hill near Nipa.
Lakari said the two were taken between 10am and 11am on Sunday along with three loaded firearms and a state vehicle.
He said everything were returned to Hela police at around 6pm the same day.
“I want to appeal to the people living along the road not to block the road and harass people travelling the Highlands Highway.”
