YANGORU-Sausia MP Richard Maru says the killing of a bus driver last week while on his daily run between Maprik and Wewak was “premeditated” and made to look like another armed hold-up.
Hilary Pakaman, the father of an eight-month-old girl, of Jambitanget village in Wosera, was stabbed to death by two men sitting behind the driver’s seat at Marenge village last Friday.
Maru said it was a “revenge killing” after the death of a Kiniambo villager at Magun settlement in Wewak weeks ago.
“The (armed thugs) made the killing look like an armed holdup in my district,” Maru said.
Police said one of the two killers was shot dead later while other men linked to the incident were arrested.
He thanked police from the Yangoru police station who “reacted swiftly and apprehended the suspects with the help of the villagers”.
Maru warned criminals that they would be caught and dealt with by the law.
“You will be dealt with severely if you engage in crime,” he said.
“Yangoru-Sausia has no place for criminals.
“We will hunt you down until we get you.
“We have big projects and are on the way to make our district the best in agricultural projects.
“Last year, we were the biggest cocoa producing district in the country.
“In the next two weeks, we will sell eggs from our poultry project at Haripmo village to buyers in Madang and Lae.
“I have investors (lined up) and the last thing we want are criminal activities,” he said.
“We want investors to feel safe in the district.”
