WEST New Britain’s Kimbe has been given the nod to host its first Digicel Cup game of the season when home side Cutters face Goroka Lahanis at Humphreys Oval on Sunday (2pm kick-off).
Kokopo residents get their second opportunity to see their home team Rabaul Gurias face the Hela Wigmen at Kalabond Oval on Saturday (2pm). Ticket prices, points of sale and the numbers of spectators allowed will be made known in Kimbe and Kokopo before Friday.
“Humphreys Oval is in good condition,” Papua New Guinea National Rugby League Competition manager Stanley Hondina said in a statement yesterday.
“I am confident that the venue staff, Cutters management and the West New Britain people will observe and comply with the Banis Protocols. Kokopo fans get to see their second Digicel Cup game after successfully hosting the round-seven game against the Mendi Muruks.”
He reminded the venue staff and franchises to advise their supporters to comply with the protocols.
“I can’t stress enough the importance of adhering to the protocols,” Hondina said.
“Let the Goroka incident be a lesson to all that the consequences of breaching the protocols has a huge impact on our sponsors, partners, supporters and other stakeholders.”
Meanwhile, Port Moresby’s Sir John Guise Stadium and the Lae Rugby League Ground will see two double-headers with the first games kicking off at 1pm and the second fixtures at 3.15pm.
