Kina Bank appoints Dr Temu as director

Dr Ila Temu has been appointed an independent non-executive director of the Kina Bank board.
Board chairman Isikeli Taureka welcomed him to the board and “look forward to his very valuable contribution”.
“Dr Temu brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Kina Bank board and will be invaluable in enabling continued growth and improved shareholder returns,” he said.
Dr Temu is the executive director of Barrick (Niugini) Ltd (BNL), a role he has held for some time, placing as a senior manager.
He held various roles with Placer Dome Affairs since 2000, including general-manager government relations and country manager Tanzania.
Prior to joining Placer Dome, Dr Temu was the managing director of the Mineral Resources Development Company (MRDC).
He was also a director of the National Research Institute in PNG, research director for the Pacific Islands programme at the Australian National University, Canberra and senior lecturer at the University of PNG.
He held a number of board directorships/memberships in Dome Resources Ltd, MRDC, Kina Finances Limited, PNG Incentive Fund, National Economic Fiscal Commission, Independent Public Business Corporation, the Employees Federation of PNG and the Bank South Pacific where he had been director for 13 years.
Dr Temu was a chairman of PNG Ports Corporation for five years, chairman of Bank South Pacific Capital for three years, and president of the Chamber of Mines and Petroleum for three years.
He is currently a director of Kina Petroleum Ltd, director of Kumul Petroleum Holdings Ltd, and a council member of the Divine Word University.
He holds a bachelor of economics from the University of PNG, masters in agricultural development economics from the Australian National University, and a PhD in agricultural economics from the University of California.

  • Very qualified man for Kina and Porgera but also very lucky to have a brother Sir Puka Temu in Prime Minister’s cabinet.
