A LOCALLY-owned company in Kiunga in Western has expanded its business operation.
The move was aimed at serving the interests of the landowners of Kiunga, where the Ok Tedi Mine is located.
The Faiwol Investors Ltd, which has a contract with Ok Tedi Mining Ltd, supplies janitorial and water blasting services and has now established a subsidiary arm to supply agriculture wares and products, vehicle accessories, cleaning chemicals, stationery, computer supplies and safety equipment.
Faiwol General Supplies was established after much consideration and a risk assessment.
General manager Daniel Kaputin said the expansion of the business was to try to “sustain its operation in future after mine closure”.
He urged stakeholders to provide support.
The mine’s team leader economics programme Eminoni Kailedi thanked Faiwol for initiating the project and expressed his satisfaction at Kaputin’s leadership and stable management.
A new building was constructed for the new business over 18 months at a cost of K450,000.
