A SMALL business delegation from New Zealand led by Foreign Minister Murray McCully arrived in the country on Sunday with the aim to foster business links and support for renewable energy projects.

Before arriving in the country, McCully told media in New Zealand that: “The visit to PNG is an opportunity to meet with the Prime Minister (Peter O’Neill) and a range of senior ministers, including consultations with the foreign minister, as well a chance to promote the capability and expertise New Zealand companies can offer,” McCully said.

The delegation is looking at how New Zealand can increase its support for renewable energy projects in the region.

Last week McCully said diplomat Tony Fautua will be New Zealand’s next high commissioner to PNG.

Total exports from New Zealand to PNG was more than NZ$230 million last year.

New Zealand’s aid programme in PNG is focused on renewable energy, agriculture, and community policing in Bougainville.

The delegation will continue to build on the strong foundations with the country’s private sector when McCully addresses the Port Moresby Chamber of Commerce at a special breakfast tomorrow.
