Knights half Richardson pulls out of PNG tour with injury

LONDON: St Helens halfback Danny Richardson has withdrawn from the England Knights squad for the tour to Papua New Guinea because of injury.
Richardson, who topped the Super League scoring list in 2018 with 135 goals and 296 points, suffered a groin tear in last Thursday’s play-off semifinal defeat to the Warrington Wolves. “I’m gutted that I won’t get the chance to represent the Knights in PNG,” Richardson said.
“It has been a crazy season for me with plenty of ups and downs but it is important I get myself right for preseason.
“I want to continue to work hard and improve for next year.
“I’d like to thank the fans for their support; it means a great deal to me and the players here.”
Richardson was believed to be a potential replacement for Castleford Tigers half Luke Gale, who pulled out of the senior England squad for the autumn internationals with a knee injury.
Richardson is the latest half-back to be unavailable for both senior England sides this autumn.
Fellow Knights half Jake Trueman (Castleford Tigers) is unavailable with a hand injury, while in Wayne Bennett’s squad, Gareth Widdop (St George Illawarra Dragons) and Gale — who will undergo knee surgery — are out. – Sky Sports
