Koboni to face tough task against Eagles in preliminary final

Sports

CONCEPT Koboni Demons will be sailing the high seas to earn an early grand final berth in the Port Moresby Australian Football League (POM AFL) premiership challenge.
The Demons face rough weather against traditional arch rivals Bismark Maritime West Eagles in the preliminary final clash at Colts Oval tomorrow.
Eagles are the minor premiers who went through the season with an unbeaten record to earn the first spot at the end of the regular season.
They had three weeks’ rest and will be looking to start strong as they eye another premiership.
Eagles have the class and experience in the forwardline comprising of captain Jeffery ‘Hardy’ Vogae, Jeremy Kase, Jackson Nagi and Mackenzie Kaman.
Forwards Brendan Beno, Amua Pirika, Geoffrey Lai, Veltisena Leka and Herald Kali will be looking to match their counterparts.
Eagles centreline will feature Greg Ekari, Kelly Kauglah, Rex Peregua, Kataha Siwi, Reagan Naipao, Elton Mondo, Ezekiel Iga, George Wriken and Clyde Pulah in the rucks.
The Demons’ engine room will be manned by Kila Rawali, Paul Philip, Jason So-on and Gideon Hauta in the rucks.
They had streams of inconsistencies during the season but have put their acts together for the finals series, with an emphatic moral boosting win over Lamana Dockers in last week’s qualifying final.
They will be aiming to put the Eagles to the sword tomorrow.
Meanwhile the minor semifinal will be on Sunday with Dockers facing Gordon Kokofas.
Kokofas have impressively rose up to the occasion from sixth place to eliminate Port Power for the fifth spot in the final home-and-away match three weeks ago.
Kokofas coach Joseph Ila is confident his boys will slice through to the preliminary final next week with players all psyched up with impressive do-or-die victories in the past two weeks.
The Dockers on the other hand, despite having a quiet week at training during the week, will be out to prove that they are still a quality team to be reckoned.
