THE Koiari Rugby League is the first Southern association to complete training on the sport’s Covid-19 protocols with officials now turning their attention to other competitions in the region.
Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League’s Southern Confederate administrator Indy Verena told The National yesterday that the training was compulsory under the ‘Banis Protocols’.
He said the 14-day lockdown in Port Moresby had forced the suspension of Koiari league matches on Sunday with officials urged not to field players from Port Moresby.
“We’ve completed training for the Koiari league and they’ve made some restrictions since they are close to Port Moresby,” Verena said.
“The main objective of the training is to mitigate the Covid-19.
“The training covers club and game-day protocols.
“The training looks at how officials can set up zones within the venues they are using. We’re also focusing on a single entry and exit for players and officials.”
in order for leagues to regulate the movement of people.
“We’ve also spoke to officials to liaise with local health centres so that there’s someone on the ground when games are played.
“For the Koiari league, they have the Sogeri Health Centre which has come on board to support the competition by having a medical officer on the ground.”
He said officials of Gulf’s Tei Kariko Rugby League had also indicated their interest to undergo the training and would be rostered with other affiliates in the region.
