Kokoda students walk track for six days to raise funds for school

TWENTY-NINE students from Kanga Primary School in the remote Kokoda local level government area walked the famous Kokoda Track last week to raise funds for building school infrastructure.
The six-day walk for the sutdnets from Kokoda station in Northern all the way to Owers Corner at Sogeri last week was sponsored by Sohe MP Henry Amuli with the aim to raise funds and build a double classroom, a teacher’s house and a new school library for the school.
The students were received by Amuli upon their arrival at Owers Corner in Central after the completion of their trek and were taken to Parliament House where they were taken on a tour by the MP and had lunch at the state function room.
Amuli said a key priority of his district administration was supporting education.
He said the Sohe development authority allocated K100,000 towards building school infrastructure.
According to Amuli, the Sohe development authority had provided funding to: Kokoda local level government – Kanga Primary School (K100,000), Kokoda Primary (K100,000), Abuari Primary (K100,000); Higaturu local level government – Waru primary K150,000, Dekowari Primary (K200,000); Tamata LLG – Ioma Primary (K100,000).
Amuli said Martyrs Secondary School was also given K100,000 while K500,000 was allocated for school fee subsidies for Sohe.
