Kokopo planning to prioritise agriculture sector

PLANS to make agriculture a priority sector in Kokopo, East New Britain (ENB), are well underway.
Kokopo MP and Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Emil Tammur said this during his visit to the Eden Sanctuary farm site at Tobera in the Kokopo-Vunamami urban local level government (KVULLG) in Kokopo on Friday.
Tammur The National that as Kokopo MP, his immediate plan was to go into food security.
He said Kokopo would now focus on agriculture-based food security.
“With the Covid-19, we must all start working on our land and start planting food crops so that we will not go hungry and also we can have surplus to supply others,” he said.
“I am encouraging people in Kokopo to start focusing on agriculture as the way forward because through this sector I believe the livelihood of our people will change.”
Apart from food security, Tammur said coconut was the other major product which Kokopo would be promoting.
He thanked the owner of the Eden Sanctuary, Herman Valvalu, for promoting agriculture in the Kokopo, especially in the KVULLG.
