Kombra cleared of fraud related charges

EDUCATION Secretary Dr Uke Kombra has been cleared of the fraud-related charges against him, after police withdrew the case for lack of evidence.
Waigani Committal Court Magistrate Tracy Ganaii ordered that Kombra’s bail money of K3,000 be refunded to him.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Christian Iga told the court that the arresting officer had asked that case be withdrawn as there was not enough evidence.
National Fraud and Anti-Corruption Directorate director Mathew Damaru had written to the police prosecution unit at the Boroko Police Station saying the matter required further investigation.
He said the investigation was incomplete, hastily conducted without due consideration of standing procedures. “The case was very poorly investigated by the investigator who did not consult her immediate supervisor and me as director (of the directorate),” he said.
“The little evidence obtained did not disclose any element of criminality on the part of the accused.”
Kombra, 54, of Dobel village, Mt Hagen, Western Highlands was charged with two counts of abuse of office and two counts of misappropriation.

  • I still believe he has benefited in some ways.. that is normal for FAT CATS in waigani to go to courts and pronounce that they are innocent…and it only happens in PNG.

  • Kombra is cleared of his charges because a half baked investigator/prosecutor cannot complete her investigation. I can’t believe that my tax has been written off and am expected to continue paying more taxes to benefit people like Kombra. Damaru please re-open the investigation and get this culprit behind bars.

  • Police prosecutors should be charged for character assasination and defemation.
Why go to media and spoil some ones name when you dont have enough évidence….

  • Most of the persecutors and investigators in the police are grade 12 HSC certificate holders who have were not able to make it to colleges and/or universities. They are able to undertake prosecution studies due to the benefits of being a law enforcing officer. That is not an excellent merit to qualify an officer to perform a job that requires the experience of a lawyer or legal personnel. Therefore, most police investigation cases have been turned down for lack of evidence because they can not proceed further. This is a serious allegation of misuse of funds on the part of the State if I may say.

  • Case not closed but as long as the alleged person has access to the crime scene foot prints will be erased..
