PAPUA New Guinea national representative Alwin Komolong has confirmed that he will return for a second year with Lae City as they look to claim the National Soccer League (NSL) title for the seventh season in a row.
The defender told The National that the current situation with Covid-19 in the country and the region had proved difficult for him to pursue offers to play abroad this year.
“I can confirm that I have re-signed with City this year,” he said.
“The current Covid-19 climate has proved very difficult to venture overseas with two opportunities passed up as a result.
“I am, however, happy with City and am looking forward to the upcoming season.
“This season is will be very challenging as we are the defending champions.
“My intentions as well as those of the team are to work hard in training and defend our title.
“With that comes a lot of hard work and discipline, but I believe City are more than capable of achieving their goals.”
After a successful title defence last season, Komolong says he will be ready for a second chance at the Oceania Football Confederation’s Champion’s League.
“We also have the Champions League campaign possibly late this year, so we will be working extra hard to prepare for that as well,” he said.
Alwin and his brother, Felix, joined City last season with the pair leading the Lae Biscuit Company-sponsored side’s defence to claim a 1-0 win over Vitiaz United for the title.
