KUMUL Petroleum Holdings Limited (KPHL), in its continuous support of the National Cancer Centre at Angau Memorial Hospital in Lae, did a trophy handover at the Lae Golf Club last week.
KPHL community affairs
manager Malcom Negints highlighted the success of this charity event last year and hoped for similar support tomorrow.
“Last year’s event was a successful one, we raised over K368,000, which was a larger amount than in our previous event in Port Moresby,” Negints said.
He said business houses and everyone in Lae showed tremendous support last year.
“The funds that we raise from this event will all go towards purchasing medical supplies and equipment at the Lae Cancer Unit,” Negints said.
He said the same system was used by KPHL and the Angau Cancer Centre to purchase medical supplies and equipment to ensure transparency.
“The funds are kept with Kumul and invoices are submitted periodically or quarterly and then we pay straight to the supplier,” Negints said.
He also mentioned the involvement of KPHL in sourcing the Cobalt 60 radiation and brachytherapy equipment that would be in use after necessary requirements were met.
Dr Kipas Binga, the Morobe Health Authority chief executive officer, acknowledged KPHL’s support and gave updates on the cancer centre.
“There are two things happening at Angau for the cancer centre, the main cancer radiation source, which is the Cobalt 60 source that we are trying to get up and running fully by March, and the brachytherapy unit,” Binga said.
He said they had a balance of K70,000 carried forward from last years event to fund the operations of the centre.
The KPHL Charity Golf will tee off tomorrow.
