JUSTICE Minister Bryan Kramer has received two terms of reference reports from the Constitutional Law Reform Commission (CLRC) to be presented to the National Executive Council (NEC) this week.
They were the CRL Report 9 – Review of Laws on City Planning and Urban Development; and, CRL Report 11 – Review of District Court Practices and Procedures.
The reports were presented to Kramer by CLRC commissioner Martha Kokiva on Thursday at the Department of Justice and Attorney-General’s office in Port Moresby.
Kokiva said that Report 9 highlighted need to promote positive growth and proper planning and management of urban development.
She added that the report looked at how Papua New Guineans could live peacefully in urban centres.
Report 11 was for courts to improve efficiency in dealing with matters.
“A person seeking justice must be accorded reasonable times to obtain justice in such courts,” Kokiva said.
“CLRC has assessed the current practice and procedures which includes certain gaps and obstacles and recommended change aimed at improving those practices and procedures so that cases can flow smoothly without creating a backlog and affecting time of the client.”
Kramer said his department would review the recommendations and decide on action to take to implement them.
