THE comments by the president of the PNG Law Society, Kerenga Kua, on the NEC’s decision to suspend the chief justice were personal and did not represent the members of the society.
He did not consult or seek the council’s endorsement.
Was he not the same person who ridiculed the same chief justice and the judiciary by telling them that there was widespread public perception that the judiciary was corrupt?
These were serious allegations.
Why was he not charged with contempt for bringing the judiciary into disrepute?
Now, when it suited him, he jumped to the defence of the chief justice and the judiciary.
Kua, just like Deputy Prime Minister Belden Namah and Attorney-General Allan Marat, committed the same crime against the judiciary.
He is also one of the parties to the various court proceedings initiated in relation to the election of Peter O’Neill as prime minister.
Obviously he is in a conflict of interest situation and should not have commented on the actions taken by the NEC.
We will not be surprised if he goes ahead and congratulates the NEC for lifting the suspension of the chief justice.
