PETROLEUM and Energy Minister Kerenga Kua has been appointed acting deputy prime minister.
Prime Minister James Marape in a gazettal notice this week said Kua’s appointment became effective last Friday “and until the deputy Prime Minister Davis Steven resumes duties”.
The reason for Steven’s absence could not be confirmed yesterday, although there were reports that he was overseas.
Kua, the second-term Sinasina-Yongomugl MP, is currently the Minister for Petroleum and Energy.
He was the Justice Minister and Attorney-General in the Peter O’Neill-led government after the 2012 general election.
He was decommissioned in 2014.
