THE Kudjip Nazerene Hospital in Western Highlands has closed its doors.
The action stemmed from an attack last Thursday evening where a nursing sister had her arm chopped off by an intruder.
Reports said all the in-patients had packed up and left the hospital grounds.
Hospital administrator Dr Scott Dooley said in a statement yesterday that the Kudjip Nazerene facility would remain closed until the suspect was arrested and prosecuted.
Dooley said the security and safety of his staff was important.
He said a male intruder had approached the nurse last Thursday evening and demanded that she go with him. When she refused, the man slashed her with a bush knife.
Police were also investigating.
