Kuman calls on rival factions to stop fighting

GUMINE MP Nick Kuman has called on the two rival factions in the district to stop fighting and hand their weapons to authorities.
Kuman addressed the leaders of the Nebeku tribe and those from Delku and Koban in the Kumai-Bomai local level government on Friday to surrender their guns.
He told the two leaders of the warring tribes to bring their guns and explain where they got them from.
He hit hard at the leaders during the peace-brokering event aimed at ending the fighting which had dragged on for a month.
Three people have died and another was badly wounded in the Delku-Koban tribes.
One member of the Nebeku tribe was killed.
Many properties and food gardens were destroyed.
The hostility began in mid-April after an argument over the distribution of the prize money from games sponsored by the district during Christmas.
Kuman said tribal fights were “self-inflicted” disasters. He told the leaders to think about the welfare of their women and children before taking up arms.
The leaders agreed to lay down arms.
The peace-brokering process included the brukim suga (sugar-breaking) ceremony which was arranged by Kuman with the support of district officials and police.
