Labour dept in charge of seasonal work

DEPARTMENT of Labour and Industrial Relations is the only authorised recruiter for the seasonal workers’ programme in Papua New Guinea, says Minister Mehrra Kipefa.
He said there were no other authorised individuals or associations in PNG who could facilitate the seasonal worker programme.
“Any queries of sort, please refer to the Department of Labour and Industrial Relations, especially the office of the secretary or the office of the minister,” Kipefa said.”
He said the Ministry of Labour and Industrial Relations was in discussion with the Australian government in support of PNG citizens to participate in the Pacific Labour Scheme.
The Pacific Labour Scheme allows people from Pacific Islands countries to work in low and semi-skilled jobs in rural and regional Australia.
The scheme is part of the Australian government’s commitment to strengthening Australia’s engagement with the Pacific.
