A 61-YEAR-OLD woman accused of abuse of office and two other charges had her case thrown out yesterday at the Waigani Committal Court for lack of evidence.
Magistrate Ernest Wilmot discharged Mori Kegana, from Uritai village, Malalaua in Gulf on charges of abuse of office, misappropriation and false pretence.
“Having looked at the evidence in its entirety, I cannot see any impropriety that has been claimed by the police in the hand-up brief,” Wilmot said.
“In conclusion I find that there is inconclusive evidence for this court to rely on in order to commit the defendant to trial.”
Kegana was accused of abusing the authority of her office by signing an instrument of forfeiture of title identified as Lot 27 Sect 2, Lae, Morobe.
This was alleged to have be done while she was the acting deputy director for the Northern region, alienated division of the Lands Department.
