THE Dulux Touch Football Club are turning up the heat in preparation for high-intensity finals football in the Lae Corporate Touch Association competition in September.
Formerly Wascom Touch Football Club, the unbeaten Dulux lead the competition in the open men’s and open mixed division after 17 matches.
But club captain James Maim, a member of the national team who competed at Touch World Cup in Malaysia in April, warned that despite leading the competition, his players should not be complacent.
“We should not take our foot off the pedal, not even for one second,” Maim told The National.
Dulux have four consecutive championships to their name from 2015-2018.
“This year, we’re leading the Lae Corporate Touch Association competition ladder and are showing no sign of slowing down,” Maim said.
“We believe in putting God first, going in matches with the right attitude, playing as a team and enjoying footy.”
With the leadership of group made up of Maim, his brother and vice-captain Michael Maim, Macx Kapou and Jason Akama, Dulux once again have their sights firmly set on adding another championship to their trophy cabinet.
But to achieve that, Maim wants his club to return to basic football heading into the finals.
“We also need to polish up on simple handling errors,” he said.
“We should never underestimating our opponents, and focus on winning our remaining games of the regular season.”
Dulux take on Classic in the open men’s, women and mixed divisions at Amelia Park on Sunday.
