Lae bus stops need improvement

Letters

METROPOLITAN city bus stops cannot be used and need to be fixed by the Lae authorities for use by public motor vehicles (PMVs).
PMVs park everywhere and anywhere. There is no order and/or points for pick-up and drop-off.
At the Top Town, Eriku and at the Highlands Highway bus stops, drivers and crew members will be shouting, screaming and forcefully directing passengers into their buses. One does not stand a chance of making a choice.
The same is also being felt at the Lae Main Market bus terminal, and the road leading into and out of the bus stop is in serious need of repair.
These problems have been around since last year.
Most of these bus stops were built more than 20 years ago. They require urgent maintenance.
The only government officers on the ground are the policemen and women maintaining order of PMVs arriving and leaving.
If it were not for the police officers at bus stops, situations would get worse including unnecessary fights over passengers and the routes to be serviced.
A good lead would be the Boroko bus stop arrangement in NCD. First bus gets loaded up, leaves and then the second in line calls out for passengers. That is order.
