DEFENDING champions Lae City hammered the visiting Star Mountain 6-1 at the Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium on Saturday as the Peter Gunemba-coached side maintained second spot in the Kumul Petroleum National Soccer League.
Ladder leaders Hekari United beat home side Morobe United 2-0 to remain the only side to have won all their seven matches so far this season. Tusbab Stallions edged Morobe Wawens 1-0 in the third Lae fixture.
A double from Johnathan Allen saw Bougainville beat Kutubu 3-1 in the main clash of the Kumul Petroleum National Soccer League Port Moresby double-header on Saturday.
The round-seven match saw Bougainville take control of the match from the get-go with midfielder Basil Jofari coordinating their attack to give room for Allen to open the scoring in the first half.
But momentum swung in favour of Kutubu towards the end of the half with forward Andrew Apo setting up Karesa Moris for an equaliser.
A slow start to the second half saw neither side seize any chances but a change in Bougainville’s personnel saw Philemon Eaka add depth in attack with the forward delivering a great cross for Allen to score his second goal.
A late goal from Danny Vetali saw Bougainville claim their third victory of the season.
Meanwhile, the opening match saw competition favourites Vitiaz United grab their sixth victory of the season with a 1-0 win over Gulf Komara, thanks to a late winner from youngster Yagi Yasasa.
Results: Vitiaz United 1 Gulf Komara 0, Bougainville 3 Kutubu 1, Tusbab Stallions 1 Morobe Wawens 0, Lae City 6 Star Mountain 1, Hekaru United 2 Morobe United 0.
