Lae City hopes to toughen squad before league resumes

KUMUL Soccer League defending champions Lae City say they intend to use the rest of the season to strengthen their squad following the exit of a few senior players in March.
City coach Bob Morris told The National that although they were second on the ladder, he would like to see his players get to know each other better at the resumption of the season on Aug 1.
“We know a good number of our senior players have left,” he said.
“But we also have some senior players like Alwin (Komolong) and Jacob (Sabua) with a lot good talent so it’s all about them getting to know each other better.
“Anybody can play football, whether you’re a star.
“The main thing is that you maintain your discipline.
“We haven’t resumed full training yet but we we’re having small sessions in our groups for less than two hours in the afternoons.
“I’ve told my players to take care of themselves and practise basic hygiene while we are training.
“Training has been good so far.
“There won’t be any games until August so we haven’t gone deep into game analysis yet.
“We’re just making sure that we are maintaining our fitness and doing small drills to keep ourselves sharp during this time.”
The Papua New Guinea Football Association recently announced the resumption of the competition after suspending all its activities two months ago in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
