THE Q-Cup round 19 match between the PNG Hunters and the Norths Devils at the Lae Rugby League Oval on Sunday should be treated as a promotional game, says Lae rugby league club man Leo Kataro.
The president of 14B Pirates club said the match was a first for the city and the fans and rugby league fraternity and they needed to show the rest of the country that they could host big games.
“This game should not just be about making money but to inspire Lae’ children,” Kataro said.
“Junior players are the future of rugby league and the Hunters.
“I want my young players to be given a chance to watch this game and get inspired,” he said.
Kataro was responding to comments made by the PNGRFL chief executive officer Reatau Rau in Tuesday’s edition of The National.
Rau said hosting the Country Week game in Lae was expensive and the K50 price per ticket was justified.
Kataro said PNGRFL setting the K50 ticket cost was unfair students and children.
“The PNGRFL should reconsider the gate fee,” he said.
“Givea chance to our juniors and children to watch.”
