LAE Fire Service is determined to roll out its fire emergency training and awareness in districts in collaboration with district authorities and government agencies.
Commander Bal Kenna announced the new year work plan during a Christmas function witnessed by the newly-appointed Morobe national functions programme manager Fiona Gesa on Monday.
Gesa is in charge of government agencies including provincial divisional offices, police, Correctional Services, Fire Services, disaster and related agencies.
Kenna said under the fire brigade management guide, the action plan for 2019 was crafted focusing more into district links with provincial government infrastructures and maintenance programme in all districts in Lae.
“We aim to reach the unreached areas where our government had invested a lot in development funds resulting in various infrastructures and facilities being built over the years like schools and health care services,” Kenna said.
“They have started with Mutzing (Markham) and Boana (Nawaeb) to conduct awareness as well as investigations into the burnt-down Mutzing police station and the death of a detainee from Jiwaka.
“To protect government-funded facilities like primary and high schools, vocational training institutions, health centres, police station, administration headquarters, stake holders like banking and postal services, water and telecommunication offices the fire emergency plan is crucial.”
They will also conduct building inspections to ensure facilities comply with fire emergency guide to protect lives and assets.
“We will also continue to maintain our relationships with government institutions and companies in Lae city in conducting technical capacity building,” Kenna said.
