Lae gearing up for big events

THE Lae Bowling Club is currently focused on improving player combinations by engaging in local competitions in preparation for upcoming national events this year.
The club hosted a two-day men’s and women’s triple competition over the weekend in Lae.
The club’s senior vice president William Kennedy said about four teams for the ladies and five teams for the men competed in the tournament.
“The teams consisted of three players on each side challenging each other so there were about 30 men’s players and 16 in ladies,” he said.
“It’s a normal local competition, we get winners, organise and give them prizes and trophies.
“But the main thing here is for the players to get to know and get used to each other so when they go out to the national competitions, they can play well with each other.”
Kennedy said they had success in the men’s singles national competition held in Madang and the national pairs title in Goroka.
Meanwhile, Kennedy said LBC had very experienced players who would take part in the national men’s triple tournament coming up in two weeks at the Bulolo Bowling Club and the national ladies’ triple in Mt Hagen.
“LBC has a lot of PNG reps who have represented the country – both men and ladies,” he said.
