ADMINISTRATOR Adrian Chow says he was pleased with how the Lae Rugby League Oval held a full house last Sunday.
Chow told The National that he was happy the day went well with the fans behaving.
“More than 6500 tickets were sold and we had just under 7000 people at the ground and it was just a fantastic spectacle — two great matches with the crowds real enjoyed the two matches.”
Chow said after what took place last Sunday he was hopeful the Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League and other teams or associations would consider bringing matches to Lae. “We’re set to benefit from the SP gala dinner fundraising last Saturday and will receive some funds from that so there’s much more we can do to further improve the Lae Rugby League oval so that our grassroots and local leagues will benefit,” Chow said.
He said of the upcoming international match, the England Knights team manager and team coach were in Lae two weeks ago.
“The English officials were here recently and had a look at the ground and facility and they were satisfied it would give their squad a memorable experience.”
Chow said the England Knights were looking forward to their match against the Kumuls in October.
Hunters coach Michael Marum said: “It’s good to take the game out of Port Moresby the regular venue at the National Football Stadium and come out and see all the people. We had good support from the community and from the schools in Lae.”
