LAE City has reported two deaths in the the Top Town area over the weekend, says acting Lae metropolitan commander Senior Inspector James Luan.
He said the first case was a suspicious death that was reported to police on Saturday morning – a man was found dead in a room he had rented at a lodge near Top Town.
“We had a similar death at the same place some years back where a man was also found dead and reported to police by his girlfriend,” Luan said. He said in the death on Saturday, the deceased was alleged to have consumed alcohol, booked a room on Friday and took his girlfriend with him to the room.
Luan said at around 5am on Saturday, the girlfriend reported to police that the person had died.
“At the moment, the circumstances surrounding the death are still unknown pending a post-mortem report and final investigation report.”
However, Luan said the girlfriend of the deceased was the main witness as well as others whom police would identify as key witnesses.
Luan said the deceased was drunk at the time when he had booked the room. The second death occurred on Saturday night near the Lae Urban local level government office area.
“The death occurred between 1.40am and 2am on Sunday.”
Luan the body was found with blood coming from the mouth.
Police were alerted about the death when arriving at the scene. They found the body near the Lae Urban local level government headquarters building.
“Before this death occurred, there was a fight reported in that area where the deceased person fought with a group of other males,” Luan said
