Lae police to increase visibility

POLICE in Lae are increasing their visibility in the main shopping areas, markets and bus stops to monitor street vending and law and order problems.
Metropolitan Superintendent Anthony Wagambie Jr said it was to ensure public safety and support development.
“That is why those main areas in the city have police officers on foot patrols,” he said.
All police station commanders in Lae have been rostering officers on foot patrols.
Officers from the sector response units are also helping out.
Wagambie said the police emergency toll free number was proving to be a success with more people giving police information needed for their work.
“Another effective way that the public are contributing to help us in executing our duties is our police Facebook page,” he said.
“Most recommendations by the public through our page were taken on board to tailor policing strate gies to help us to deliver our services in the environment we work in.”
Wagambie said positive and negative comments from public were taken on board.
“Constructive criticisms are good as these ensure we deliver our obligations to our community and the people that we are serving,” he said.
