ALL educational institutions in Lae district will suspend their classes today during Prime Minister James Marape’s visit to the province for a political rally, an official says.
The rally will be held at Eriku Oval and is expected to attract thousands.
In a circular (08/22) from the office of the division of education in the province, education adviser Keith Tangui directed all schools to suspend classes today.
He said in the circular that the suspension of classes was due to the expected influx of people to the rally and an increase in the number of vehicles on the streets.
“Such distractions are sure to interfere with the teaching and learning of the students in the classroom,” said Tangui in the circular.
He said normal classes would resume on Monday.
Classes starting from the elementary school to technical vocational education training (TVET) schools and higher institutions will have their classes suspended for the day.
Meanwhile, Assistant Commissioner of Police Northern Peter Guinness said police would be monitoring the situation closely to ensure the rally went as planned.
