LAE Tennis club has been commended for successfully staging the Panamex Singles Tennis Open tournament over the weekend.
Panamex Pacific (PNG) general manager Erich Illemann congratulated the committee and other club members for delivering the tournament a first for the city in a long time.
“We had a few challenges behind the scenes with rain but thanks to everyone who stood up to make this tournament a success.
This is the first tournament after almost 25 years and we have been very excited being the naming rights sponsors and we are really honoured to have been given that opportunity,” he said.
“I congratulate every participant in this tournament, we had an incredible turn out, a lot bigger than what we expected and everybody got behind it.
“We had virtually zero disputes throughout as everybody played competitively but really played in the spirit of the game so well done to all participant.”
Illemann added that the company actively supported community soccer was now backing other sports such as cricket. “We like the fact that people can get out there and be active especially the juniors, get out there and participate in sports.
“It’s a healthy activity trying to bring together people within the community.
“So if we can help and support that we certainly will,” said Illemann after the tournament.
