TWELVE teams have been confirmed to take part in the 2018 season of the Lae Corporate Touch Association (LCTA) competition.
According to the association’s secretary Kila Vaname LTCA is one of the oldest touch associations and has a history of producing provincial and national representatives.
The 12 teams confirmed to take part in the LCTA competition are Admiralty Marlins, Junior Bees, Drifters, Gulf Poi, Lae Biscuit, New Campers, Nomads, River Rocks, Slumdogs, Wanico, Wascom and Yanga.
Vaname said after two weeks of preseason games, the association was now into its season proper.
The association has three divisions — juniors, open mixed and open men — where the clubs have teams in each division.
“The games are played on Saturday and Sunday’s at the Eriku Niall Reserve Oval with the main aim and goal to develop the code of touch,” Vaname said.
“Also through taking part in the code of touch football youths are kept busy off the streets and it also curbs criminal activities. Involving youths in sports like touch football we have seen the interest grow with a lot of new players coming through.”
